Food and grocery code of conduct independent review

Dr. Emerson has released an interim report for the Food and Grocery Code of Conduct Independent review. This report is commissioned by the Albanese Government and was released on Monday 8th April. The Hon Dr. Craig Emerson will lead the 2023 – 2024 Review of the Food and Grocery Code of conduct.

The report outlines there is a market power imbalance between smaller suppliers and supermarkets which creates the need for an effective code. The code aims to rectify this bargaining power imbalance.

The report recommends to apply this code to supermarkets who are generating revenues over $5 billion per year. This would include the following supermarkets: Aldi, Coles, Woolworths, Metcash.

The interim report includes 11 recommendations for improving the code, click here to read a statement sent by Hon Dr Craig Emerson.
