Tasmania's premier, Jeremy Rockliff, has relinquished the health portfolio in favor of focusing on driving the state's economic growth. This decision was announced during a government cabinet reshuffle, which introduced a new portfolio named "Stadia and Events."

Today, Rockliff unveiled several changes to his team, emphasizing the priorities of his Liberal government. "By taking on State Development, I will continue to deliver on our long-term plan and address the needs of all Tasmanians," he stated during a press conference in Hobart. Rockliff, highlighted Tasmania's population growth, booming business, and transformative developments as indicators of progress.

In addition to stepping down as health minister, Rockliff revealed plans to merge Tourism and Hospitality portfolios under his leadership. "Tourism and hospitality are vital economic drivers, especially in our regions," he emphasized, noting record-breaking visitor numbers and the government's focus on capitalizing on opportunities.

The reshuffled cabinet includes a new Stadia and Events portfolio aimed at delivering the promised AFL stadium at Macquarie Point and supporting Tasmania's entry into the national AFL competition.
